Science has sounded the alarm on the nature and seriousness of the global climate change challenge. Any response must start from an assessment of scientific research on climate change.
So too, innovative science will clearly be an important part of the solution.
We must develop technologies can reduce the human impact on the climate, while maintaining living standards in the developed world and enabling growth in the developing world.
The distinctiveness of the Jewish people’s response lies in recognizing the holistic nature of the climate change crisis. The challenge of global warming requires a marriage of moral and spiritual vision with scientific and entrepreneurial innovation. Neither well-meaning ethical exhortations nor purely technical solutions will be sufficient by themselves.
Twentieth Century science was revolutionized by the contributions of Jewish thinkers. Moreover, Israel’s world-leading high-tech economy testifies to our ability to transform cutting-edge science into successful applications.
Through its technology programs, Jewish Climate Initiative will seek to leverage this scientific expertise and talent, both in Israel and the Diaspora. We will promote collaborative research, and the development and application of innovative technologies to alleviate and reduce the impact of climate change and global warming in the following areas:
- renewable energy sources;
- energy efficiency, and energy storage;
- carbon sequestration;
- adaptive strategies and the building of adaptive capacities to the impacts of climate change;
- emergency response to impact events;
